Galway Music Residency’s Concerts for the Celtic Calendar continues in April with a look at the Irish weather through the eyes of the Brindled Cow. In this old Irish folk tale, during the month of March an old brindle cow, an bó riabhach, complains about the bad winter weather but boasts that despite her age she will outlive it and greet the mild weather of April. The Month of March takes offense to
her complaints and boasting and steals a number of days from April to lengthen the winter period. The old cow is unable to keep going through this unexpected addition of harsh weather, and dies. The moral of the story is: complain about the weather or test the elements at your peril!

ConTempo Quartet will perform a specially curated programme in honour of The Days of the Brindled Cow as part of Lunchtimes with ConTempo on Tuesday 2 April at 1:10pm in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church. The programme features classical and contemporary works that contemplate bad weather. From stormy movements of Beethoven’s Serioso quartet and Ravel’s only string quartet, to works
depicting the rain including Marian Ingoldsby’s Struck by a Raindrop, ConTempo Quartet will present a very atmospheric programme.

Entry to the concert is free, all are welcome. Donations are welcome. No booking is required.
